Hebei Construction Group Sets New Steel Tower Construction Record
at Qinghai Huadian Project
On June 26, 2025, the 2# steel cooling tower of Qinghai Huadian Golmud Phase I 2×660MW coal-fired power project was successfully capped. The Golmud coal-fired power project is recognized as the world’s largest "desert, Gobi and barren land" power base by installed capacity and the world’s highest-altitude steel cooling tower construction. Before that, the 1# steel cooling tower had also been topped out ahead of schedule. Both towers completed main structure capping two months earlier than planned, which accelerating base project’s overall progress and setting a new record in the power industry for steel tower construction at "extreme speed."
